Article 1
The Purposes of the United Nations are:
- To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
- To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
- To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion; and
- To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.

La Unuiĝintaj Nacioj metas al si jenajn celojn :
- Gardi la mondpacon kaj la internacian sekurecon kaj tiucele fari efikajn kolektivajn disponojn por malhelpi kaj forigi minacojn al la paco, subpremi atakajn agojn kaj aliajn pacorompojn kaj realigi, per pacaj rimedoj konforme al la principoj de la justeco kaj de la internacia juro, la alĝustigon aŭ solvon de internaciaj malkonsentoj aŭ de situacioj kiuj povus konduki al pacorompo.
- Disvolvi inter la nacioj amikajn rilatojn bazitajn sur la respekto de la principo de egaleco de la rajtoj de la popoloj kaj de ilia rajto disponi pri si mem, kaj fari ĉiajn aliajn disponojn taŭgajn por solidigi la pacon de la mondo;
- Realigi la internacian kunlaboradon solvante la internaciajn problemojn de ekonomia, socia, intelekta aŭ homhelpa karaktero, disvolvante kaj subtenante la respekton al la homrajtoj kaj al la fundamentaj liberecoj por ĉiuj, sen distingo de raso, de sekso, de lingvo aŭ de religio.
- Esti centro en kiu harmoniiĝas la klopodoj de la nacioj por tiuj komunaj celoj.
Article 2
The Organization and its Members, in pursuit of the Purposes stated in Article 1, shall act in accordance with the following Principles.
- The Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members.
- All Members, in order to ensure to all of them the rights and benefits resulting from membership, shall fulfill in good faith the obligations assumed by them in accordance with the present Charter.
- All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered.
- All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.
- All Members shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the present Charter, and shall refrain from giving assistance to any state against which the United Nations is taking preventive or enforcement action.
- The Organization shall ensure that states which are not Members of the United Nations act in accordance with these Principles so far as may be necessary for the maintenance of international peace and security.
- Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter VII.
Artikolo 2
La Organizaĵo de la Unuiĝintaj Nacioj kaj ĝiaj membroj, en sia klopodado por la celoj eldiritaj en la Artikolo 1, devas agi konforme al la sekvaj principoj:
- La organizaĵo estas bazita sur la principo de suverena egaleco de ĉiuj ĝiaj membroj.
- La membroj de la organizaĵo, por certigi al ĉiuj la ĝuadon de la rajtoj kaj avantaĝoj devenantaj el ilia membreco, devas plenumi bonfide la devojn kiujn ili alprenis laŭ la teksto de tiu ĉi ĉarto.
- La membroj reguligas solvas siajn internaciajn disputojn per pacaj rimedoj, tiel ke la paco kaj la internacia sekureco kaj la justeco ne estu endanĝerigata.
- La membroj detenas sin, en siaj internaciaj rilatoj, je minaco aŭ uzo de forto, ĉu kontraŭ la teritoria integreco aŭ politika sendependeco de ĉia ŝtato, ĉu en ĉia alia maniero malkongrua kun la celoj de la Unuiĝintaj Nacioj.
- Ĉiuj membroj donas al la Unuiĝintaj Nacioj ĉian helpon en ĉia ago entreprenita de tiuj konforme al la dispozicioj de tiu ĉi ĉarto kaj detenas sin helpi ŝtaton kontraŭ kiu la Organizo faras antaŭmalhelpan aŭ perfortan agon.
- La Organizo faras tiel ke la ŝtatoj kiuj ne estas membroj de la Unuiĝintaj Nacioj agu konforme al tiuj ĉi principoj en la mezuro necesa por konservi la internaciajn pacon kaj sekurecon.
- Nenia dispozicio de tiu ĉi ĉarto permesas la Unuiĝintajn Naciojn interveni en aferojn kiuj koncernas esence la nacian kompetenton de ŝtato nek devigas la membrojn submeti tiajn aferojn al proceduro de regulado laŭ la teksto de tiu ĉi ĉarto ; tamen, tiu principo neniel malhelpas la aplikadon de pundisponoj laŭ la ĉapitro VII.
